Idlewild The Flower Rose Mendocino 2023
Where: Mendocino County, California
Grapes: 41% Nebbiolo, 30% Dolcetto, and 29% Barbera and a touch of Grignolino
Body: Light/Medium
Category: Rose Wine
From the winemaker: There is a play between savory versus fresh and subtlety versus power that make this wine very intriguing. The aromas are wound up around orange peel, celery salt, grapefruit, alpine herbs, wildflowers, blood orange, and sea spray.
winemaking: To say the least, it is an unconventional idea for Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino to be co-fermented for a rosé. It should be noted that these grapes ripen at very different times. But in this case, they were all picked together at the moment when their different qualities and stages of ripeness came together and were complimentary. In the winery, the grapes were whole cluster pressed, fermented via native yeast, left on all the lees and solids, aged in neutral oak, and underwent native secondary fermentation. Complexity and texture are gained from allowing secondary fermentation and aging on lees in neutral oak for four months, while the structure and acidity from picking plenty early allow for great vibrancy and energy through the wine.

Hild Elbling Zehnkommanull 2023
Where: Mosel, Germany
Grapes: Elbling
Body: Light
Category: White Wine
Ultra light, refreshing wine filled with lemon and citrus.
Elbling is Germany's oldest indigenous varietal. However, most of the best plots were ripped out in favor of its noble relative Riesling. Only some 1,500 acres of Elbling remain in production, almost entirely in the upper Mosel. Thankfully, there are some who tirelessly ensure the continued existence of this important grape.
Matthias Hild has a small plot of Elbling, terraced on the limestone slopes of the upper Mosel, which he looks at as his pride and joy. He is humbly preserving this honest workhorse wine that holds a special place in the history of the region. With any luck, the fruits of his devotion may catch the eye of the American wine drinkers who have begun to crave just such dry low-alcohol wines (only 10% ABV)
The “Zehnkommanull” (which translates to “10 point 0”) is called this because, even bone dry, it never ferments to more than 10% ABV. That is the magic of old vines – phenolic ripeness without excess sugar.

Foradori 'Lezer' 2023
Where: Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Grapes: Mostly Teroldego with Schiava, Lagrein and Merlot
Body: Light / Medium
Category: Red Wine / Chillable Red
Bright, lively, spicy and ideally chilled red.
Lezèr ("light" in local dialect) was born from the terrible 2017 vintage, when the fruit from the vines that produced the Foradori Rosso were devastated by a summer hail storm. The grapes that remained were deemed incapable of producing a normal red, so instead a light, rosé/sort of red wine was produced. It proved so immensely popular that Emilio and Theo decided to continue making it each vintage.
