Bruna Maje 2023
Where: Liguria, italy
Grapes: Pigato
Body: Light
Category: White Wine
“Majè,” in the Ligurian dialect, refers to the stone terraces in the area.
Freshly bloomed florals mingle with citrus and aromatic herbs.
Joe Campanale, the sommelier and owner of NYC’s Alta Linea, says you know how some golden retrievers have almost white fur—and others have fur that’s sort of red? That’s how it is with vermentino and pigato; they’re the same grape, except pigato has brown spots/ freckles.
Sourced from young vines (less than 50 years old) planted in limestone-rich soils mixed with white & blue clay, dense with fossils. The bulk of the grapes come mainly from the hill of Garaxin, above the village of Pogli, 210-260 meters above sea level. South facing vineyards planted on traditional stone walled terraces. The grapes are destemmed, soft-pressed, and fermented at 18°C. Aged in stainless steel tanks for 5 months on the lees.
