The 2024 rosé is a 70% Gamay and 30% Cabernet Franc blend from the high elevation and granitic soils of Barsotti Vineyard in El Dorado.
At nearly 3000 ft Barsotti is one of the highest elevation vineyards in Northern California. The extreme nature of the vineyard with its high elevation and proximity to the snowcapped Sierra Nevada Mountains create a warm day and cool night balance that is ideal for slow physiological ripening and acid retention. The decomposed “pink" granite soils mirror that of the great sites in the Northern part of Beaujolais, inspiring the original planting back in 2005. The vines here are organically farmed on an extremely unique vertical tree-like style rarely seen in California viticulture.
Harvested in late-August and early September, the grapes were whole cluster pressed to stainless steel for native yeast fermentation, then underwent a 6-month élevage in neutral puncheons before blending and bottling to preserve acidity and freshness.
