ABOUT THE WINEMAKER
Usonia is dedicated to exploring new ways forward for New York wine. The name comes from the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who used "Usonia" to refer to his vision of a fully democratic American landscape, free of Old World conventions. They focus on varieties they believe are appropriate to their cold climate. They strive to make vibrant, honest wines true to the place they come from.
Julia & Alex Alvarez-Perez are a wife and husband team that worked in restaurants for many years before moving into winemaking. After working at wineries in the Burgenland of Austria and the Adelaide Hills of Australia, they moved to the Finger Lakes of New York. Here, they've found an amazing community of growers and winemakers dedicated to pushing the region forward. They hope to contribute a small part to that.
